The Safety Specialist is an integral part of the Fresh Creative Foods team and works closely with manufacturing activities to identify and address EHS needs and requirements. Under minimal supervision, the Safety Specialist will assess the effectiveness of EHS programs and assist in the development, implementation, improvement, and sustainment of EHS programs and processes to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. The Safety Specialist must effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize OSHA violations.


  • Assist with the development, implementation, improvement, and sustainment of EHS programs.
  • Conducts risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions.
  • Recommends appropriate risk mitigation measures to leadership team members, including ergonomic considerations, in all such efforts.
  • Monitors regulatory compliance with government agencies.
  • Proactive approach to EHS and employee engagement, working hand in hand with production.
  • Works closely with plant Management on policy writing, safety training and facility audits.
  • Participates in loss control activities and claim reviews with insurers and brokers.
  • Executes plant accident/incident follow-up and Root Cause findings.
  • A local resource for supervisors and managers in health and safety initiatives.
  • Reviews environmental regulatory activities and applicable permitting.
  • Participates in workers’ compensation claims reviews.
  • Leads local safety committee and provides assistance to national safety coordinators.
  • Maintains accurate daily, weekly and monthly metrics reporting to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems.
  • Overviews company accident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.


  • Requires 3-5 years experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Environmental Health or a related field is preferred.
  • Requires knowledge of Federal and State OSHA regulations.
  • Experienced in emergency response and be able to maintain current First aid and CPR certificates.
  • Experienced in Workers Compensation case management.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses.
  • Ability to conduct training and meetings in all sizes of groups.
  • Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications.
  • English/Spanish bilingual is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Refrigerated food manufacturing plant 80% & office environment 20%
  • Plant work in hot/cold environments (temps from 25°F to 110°F degrees)
  • Wet conditions and at times may be increased noise levels
  • Occasional lifting, kneeling, and bending with items between 10-50 pounds
  • Production demands may require overtime and/or evening or weekend scheduling
  • Possible travel as needed.
