Overview

Entry level maintenance position. Performs lubrication on all equipment, minor adjustments of packaging equipment and minor mechanical assistance to Sanitation employees. Receives direction and training from and works with Maintenance Mechanic 2 and Maintenance Supervisor to learn skills and gain experience necessary to repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems and production machines and equipment.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs lubrication duties on all equipment according to schedule, utilizing prescribed lubricants and notifying Maintenance Mechanic 2 or Maintenance Supervisor of any potential issues observed while completing basic lubrication functions.
  2. Performs minor adjustments of packaging equipment upon request from Production Supervisor or Leads.
  3. Under direction of Sanitation Supervisor, removes belts, rollers, and equipment covers for Sanitation allowing them to clean equipment with full access. Reinstalls belts, rollers and equipment covers after Sanitation completes their tasks, May perform additional minor mechanical duties at request of Sanitation Supervisor.

Under the Guidance of Maintenance Mechanic 2 and Maintenance Supervisor:

  1. Troubleshoots, adjusts, repairs and replaces mechanical systems, mechanical components, HVAC refrigeration equipment, water system equipment, hydraulic equipment and pneumatic/vacuum systems. Ensures the equipment is running in the safest manner, with maximum efficiency and producing the highest quality product. In conjunction with the production operators, production leads/supervisors and the Safety Committee, confirm all equipment is running according to the Manufacture Safety Guidelines.
  2. Completes assigned work orders and scheduled preventative maintenance tasks (PMs) on all the equipment and systems listed above. Upon completion of each, starts devices to test their performance and monitors line performance to meet established standards.
  3. Installs plant machines and equipment and maintains, repairs or replaces defective parts on specialized manufacturing equipment using appropriate tools, devices and manuals.
  4. Performs Lock Out/Tag Out procedure on mechanical systems, water systems, hydraulic systems, HVAC refrigeration systems, and pneumatic/vacuum systems to dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Reassembles and tests systems prior to removal of Lock Out/Tag Out notification devices.
  5. Communicates problems/line status to the Maintenance Mechanic 2 and the Maintenance Supervisor.
  6. Monitors and modifies mechanical system performance as necessary to meet production requirements. Records and reports modifications to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  7. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts. Cleans and maintains tools.
  8. Lubricates equipment regularly, according to lubrication schedule.
  9. Estimates time and parts for repair jobs and maintains parts and supplies inventory.
  10. Completes data entry into assigned files, such as daily logs, work orders, requisitions, etc.
  11. Reclaims and disposes of mechanical components.

Qualifications

  1. Must be 18 years of age, graduated from high school or have obtained a GED
  2. Requires knowledge of food and safety regulations.

  3. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  4. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  5. Ability to speak effectively to all levels of employees.
  6. Bilingual skills in English/Spanish, both oral and written, preferred.
  7. Ability to organize and maintain data/information and attention to detail is preferred.
  8. Ability to ready, analyze, and interpret QC and production procedures or government regulations.
  9. Must have a valid Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record.
